RTV Molding / Urethane Castings
Urethane castings simulate parts produced from injection molds in appearance and in some cases strength but within a much shorter time frame. The process begins with the creation of a high-resolution master pattern from SLA, Polyjet, FDM or CNC, which is used to create a cavity in the silicone-based RTV mold. When multiple patterns are produced, family molds consisting of multiple cavities can be created.
After the removal of the pattern from the mold, urethane, epoxy or silicone-based materials are shot in to the mold under low pressure, producing parts that are bubble free and void of any imperfections on the surface. The process is repeatable, and a single cavity can produce up to 40 parts. A large variety of shore A and shore D materials are available in addition to clear materials along with several grades of shore A silicone. Over molding of two different durometers to create a single multi-durometer part, and insert molding of a supplied part can also be utilized by this process. All parts from Additive Manufacturing LLC are cast in color and with texture.

Technical Info
Single-piece parts as large as 7’ x 4’ are achievable
Draft might be required but in most cases it isn’t needed
Suggested radii in corners should be at least 0.125”
If lettering is needed, ensure .040” thick tall, wide, deep or recessed
Mininum wall thickness should be no less than .040”; with larger parts up to 48” in the X or Y, .125” is recommended
