Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)

Brief Overview

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) is best utilized in place of CNC when the part complexity requires a 4th or 5th axis mill. The process involves a 200 - 400 watt Yb laser sintering or melting the metallic powder layer upon layer until the part is created. Leadtimes are typically 2 - 3 days for small parts, and 5 – 7 days for larger parts. The build material is pure metal sized at 20 microns. Parts produced from this process are high in detail and typically hold very tight tolerances (.005" - .010"). After parts are produced, they are fully dense and as strong as wrought or cast parts. Post machining, EDM, polishing and other services can easily be performed. Our largest build chamber size is 15" x 15" x 15".
